Eating well and successfully maintaining healthy habits comes down to having the right mindset.
The mind is a powerful device, and your thoughts can be empowering or they can completely sabotage and derail you. The good news is that you can decide how you choose to be!
We all know that if you want to manage your PCOS you have to adopt healthy eating habits. I know this can be easier said than done. However, I’m hoping that today’s blog will put a new spin on how to look at food and eating. Food should be fuel for the body. Without food, we could not survive. It gives us the nutrients we need to have the energy to perform daily functions. Back in the days of the cavemen, they would eat to survive and sustain life. They did not eat for any other reason. Somehow along the way, society has made eating to be a pleasurable experience that is more times than not overly indulgent and unhealthy. All kinds of treats, sweets, gourmet delights, and fattening goodies are right within reach on a daily basis. You can’t go out and not be bombarded by visuals, aromas, and advertisements for these delicious but oh-so-bad for you foods.
It is easy to succumb to temptation if you look at food as a form of pleasure. You have to train your brain to know that food is meant to be fuel for the body. Its sole job is to provide you with energy and life. Your body will then respond in the ways you want (you will be leaner, feel better, have better mental focus; you will have more energy and stamina). When you start eating to fuel the body, you will less likely want the wrong foods because you know that they will only bring on sluggishness and fatigue, bloating, weight gain/fat storage, and can lead to internal damage if continuously consumed.
You are only given one body, and you need to take care of it. Show your body that you love and appreciate it and it will undoubtedly return the favor. No one regrets a healthy choice, but I have heard the guilty remarks and self-loathing from individuals for eating poorly. You can’t go back in time, but you can decide to make a change and to retrain your thinking towards foods. Repeatedly tell yourself until you believe it, that food equals fuel. Before you know it, you will have adopted this mantra, and you will be reaping all of the benefits!
