There are many times when I crave a little something crunchy to munch on, but I also know that crunch comes at a price: higher carbs and blood sugar spikes. I’m always looking for healthier snack alternatives that taste great and satisfy my cravings of traditional indulgent treats, such as potato chips, pretzels, or crackers. We all know that these alternatives can sometimes be difficult to find or recreate. So when I heard about these roasted broad bean crisps by ENLIGHTENED, I knew I had to try them out and put them to the test.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of beans and incorporate them into my diet whenever I can. I like them in main dishes, as sides, and I like to roast them and have them for snacks. So it was no surprise that I enjoyed these roasted crisps and found them to be wonderful guilt-free crispy snacks!

The ENLIGHTENED Roasted Broad Bean crisps come in a variety of flavors to choose from including Sea Salt, Mesquite BBQ, Garlic & Onion, Wasabi, and Sriracha.  My personal favorite flavor was the Mesquite BBQ.  They had the flavoring of BBQ chips without the guilt; that subtle sweet-yet salty, zesty and smoky barbecue sauce flavor!

Personally, I thought all of the flavors were really good; even the ones that I wouldn’t necessarily gravitate towards (because I don’t like hot/spicy foods) like Sriracha and Wasabi. I was pleasantly surprised!   

My husband who also wanted in on the action, tried all of these crisps out with me, and thought they were winners as well.  His favorite was the Wasabi flavor.  He said it reminded him of those tasty fried noodles that are served at Chinese restaurants, that you dip into that hot wasabi mustard.  He got that same great flavor and just a little heat in a much healthier package!  

One more thing we both liked about all the flavors was that the beans were not overly seasoned, but rather had just the right, balanced amount.  You don’t end up with seasoning caked on your fingers after eating, or feel like the flavors overpower the taste of the beans themselves.  Whether you’re into traditional simple snack flavors or thrive on a bold or a zesty flavor, then there is an ENLIGHTENED Roasted Broad Bean crisp for you!

Now that you know that they taste great, here’s how these crisps stack up nutritionally. A one-ounce serving is 100 calories, and packs 7 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber. Not too shabby! You won’t get protein from regular chips. For individuals like myself that count carbs, it is only one carb/starch exchange per serving (so it can definitely fit into your diet). In addition, they are low in fat, gluten free, and certified vegan.

Honestly, I haven’t seen these in retail stores at least near me so far, but I imagine I will see them soon. I know you can order them directly off of ENLIGHTENED's website. Check them out, I think you will like these healthy crisps, I know I do!
